Spearguns

Spearguns should have a good design and have the ability to deliver a precise, powerful strike, to the game you are pursuing. After using the Omer Master America 90cm Speargun on a Striped Bass trying to get away, I have finally found just the right Series of Speargun to get the job done! The Striper Never Had A Chance!

"WE NO LONGER DISTRIBUTE FREEDIVING GEAR." These are just some of the types of gear that has been around. I show them so that you may take a look at what types of gear has been popular with successful Spearos!

The Excalibur 2000 Speargun series is the evolution of the Omer classic Excalibur Speargun which was first introduced on the market at the end of the 1990’s. It is regarded as one of the best performance for value speargun on the market today.

1 - The muzzle has been reinforced in some parts but has maintained the same basic advantages. Having used Nylon 66 with 50% fiber glass to inject mold this part, we were able to not compromise its structure and still maintain the hydrodynamics of the aluminum made muzzle.

2 - The triggering mechanism is the classic Omer “Frictionless Release”. Thanks to a small wheel working on the trigger, the release of shafts is very smooth and precise.

3 - The mechanism also features an automatic line release. As an alternative to the automatic system, the line can also be positioned on the bottom of the handle in the more classic “crocodile mouth”. Finally, the handle also features a guide for plastic and aluminum reels.

Omer Excalibur 2000 Speargun features:

Top Energy 16 mm. bands. Excalibur FR “frictionless release” mechanism. 28mm black anodized aluminum barrel. Redesigned low profile muzzle with reel line guide. Omer three piece articulated wishbone.

The Carbon Mimetic Speargun is part of a specific line of products designed by Marco Bardi called “Inshore Hunting Line by Marco Bardi” dedicated to highly technical spearfishing enthusiasts, who privilege fishing in shallow and medium depth waters. The barrel is made in carbon fiber and the thickness is the same of the Carbonium model: 1.5 mm. This speargun is available in only one length: 83 cm. This intermediate length allows better handling than a classic 90 cm but also greater power than the smaller 75 cm, making it the perfect weapon to spearfish in shallow waters.

1 - The muzzle has been reinforced in some parts but has maintained the same basic advantages. Having used Nylon 66 with 50% fiberglass to inject mold this part, we were able to not compromise its structure and still maintain the hydrodynamics of the aluminum made muzzle.

2 - The trigger mechanism is the classic Omer Excalibur “Frictionless Release”. Thanks to a small wheel working on the trigger, the release of shafts is very smooth and precise. The mechanism also features an automatic line releaser. As an alternative to the automatic system, the line can also be positioned on the bottom of the handle in the more classic “crocodile mouth”. Finally, the handle also features a guide for plastic and aluminum reels.

3 - The mimetic color is a mixture of different tonalities of blue and gray very similar to the colors used for the Omer wet suit “Ocean Mimetic”. The color is obtained by positioning a printed sticker on the carbon fiber barrel under the epoxy resin coating.

Carbon Mimetic Speargun features:

Excalibur handle with FR “frictionless release” mechanism. 1.5mm carbon fiber barrel with blue camouflage pattern. Top Energy 16 mm bands. Custom 125cm 6.5mm spring stainless steel Tahitian shaft.

Design by Marco Pisello - an established architect who lives and works in Carate Brianza outside of Milan. A spearfishing enthusiast who between the 80's and 90's took part in several 1st category (major league vs. minors for spearfishing basically in Italy) winning many trophies.

Production: limited to 200 pieces for 2005

Design Process – Marco Pisello teamed up with the technical department at Omer to make the architectural drawings (of his early prototype which he commissioned to Omer) CNC friendly through the use of CAD 3D and 4D design software used in Omer's technical department.

Barrel Manufacturing process: Outsourced to an established high end Italian manufacturer specializing in wood. The manufacturer disposes of CNC machines for the manufacturing process while producing these M.Pisello/Omer Master America Speargun design. The initial year the Master America Speargun debuted in the European market 2003 ½) the 500 piece production was sold out and a rerun especially catered to the necessities and differences of the US and Oceanic markets was considered using Teak wood. CNC machining allows consistencies in precision from piece to piece and the ability to make curved cuts and the milling in the stock that cannot be replicated by typical routers, tables saws etc and can usually only be done by hand by experienced wood craftsman.

Wood: Teak, Burmese teak to be precise. Teak is synonymous with the best wood for marine applications in that it does not require a stain or sealer for protection thanks to its natural siliceous (high silicone) content.

Burmese teak is hard to differentiate from other lesser types of teak like Indonesian teak but as a rule of thumb it is a rich golden brown heart wood while the soap wood is pale yellow. The Master America Speargun barrels are laminated using 6 laminations to ensure rigidity and eliminating any possibility of warping and glued together specifically. But more importantly 6 laminations are used because Teak has a natural variation in density of roughly 25-30%, basically not all teak is homogeneous, and therefore one piece may weigh up to 30% more or less than an identical sized piece.

These inherent differences in the wood were considerations that couldn’t be blown off for the proper balance of the speargun and therefore all the strips of teak used are weighed so that they conform to a specific weight criterion and the ones that fall outside of this criteria aren’t used.

The Barrel Design takes the classic cuttlefish Master shape with integrated wings which enhances lateral tracking and indentions in the teak are made to snug the fittings for the muzzle to anchor it securely. The hole for the second band is also grooved nicely to conceal the band and integrate it nicely in the barrel once loaded. This barrel shape is a proven design from former Master models and in the Master America Speargun version is beefier to increase the mass for the use of two bands compared to previous models that were designed around one band.

Components: The muzzle is another unique innovation in as far as muzzle designs go in that it accommodates the typical screw in strait pull bands that keep the bands in line with the shaft as well as leaving it an open muzzle so that any style of sharkfin shaft or thicker shaft can be used and of course providing a clear line of sight down to the tip. Constructed from solid stainless and anchored through to the bottom with a line anchor using SS hex key bolts and injection molded plastic gaskets between wood and metal.

The handle is the T-20 with three modifications from the standard T-20 handles on our other models:

A bigger removable butt pad to accommodate loading of multiple bands.

Stainless steel line release rather than the standard T-20 to accommodate two wraps or more of heavy monofilament shooting line.

Line anchor loop in the front to make rigging of the shooting line more efficient and faster.

Shafts & bands* - The Master America Speargun gives the owner the choice of three shaft and power configurations:

90-115cm spearguns are set up for either use of single 18mm Power band with 17/64” (6.75mm) low profile sharkfin shafts or two power 18mm bands with a 9/32” (7mm) x 63” shaft for the 115cm.

The 130cm version is available with a 9/32”(7mm) and two 18mm Power bands, or three 18mm power bands with a 5/16”(8mm) shaft and sharkfins on the 130cm with break away slip tip.

*All configurations are suitable for the balance of the speargun and give a lot of versatility depending on the divers preference.
